It’s time for the S&D Times to take a break!
We’ll be back in the New Year, but in case you’re missing us before then, take a look at our Christmas wishlist
Our S&D Coordinators have also shared their wishes for the holiday season. Check them below.
We are nearing the end of a politically charged year. One in which we have taken note of our challenges and rejoiced in our victories for democracy. And we came out stronger through it all.
✅ In June, we managed to stop the extreme right, and we remain the second force in the House of European Democracy.
✅ In July, we managed to align the political priorities of the European Commission with the ones of the social democratic family: competitiveness and fair transition, social agenda with investment in people, green deal, democracy, rule of law and equality.
✅ And from the first days of the legislative period we started working on our electoral commitments.
✅ Our Group Leader’s first official mission was to Ukraine. And not by chance. Defending Ukraine from Putin’s illegal and brutal invasion also means defending our Union.
✅ We have achieved a Housing Committee in the European Parliament, and the first-ever Housing Commissioner. Our common aim will be providing real solutions to Europe’s housing crisis.
We now have a team of four strong European Commissioners:
Teresa Ribera – Executive Vice-President for Clean, Just and Competitive Transition
Roxana Mînzatu – Executive Vice-President for Social Rights, Quality Jobs and Preparedness
Dan Jørgensen – Commissioner for Energy and Housing
Glenn Micallef – Commissioner for Intergenerational Fairness, Youth, Culture and Sport
We have kept our promises and will continue to keep them!
This is why, in 2025, just like in the past, you can count on us. Strong, united, unwavering – we are here to fight for our European future. We are here to uphold our values, in times when others sacrifice them for majorities and provisional power.
Our pledge for 2025 and beyond is to strive to leave nobody behind. Every European; everyone wishing for a better, safer life in our Union; everyone who’s looking at Europe with hope – we hear you! And we will keep on fighting for you!
Happy Holidays, everyone!
And a better New Year!
