The delegation used to play an important role in maintaining a channel for discussion on developments and areas of mutual interest between the EU and Russia, including energy, foreign policy, environment, education and research. However, no interparliamentary meetings with Russian parliamentarians from the State Duma or the Federation Council have taken place since the annexation of Crimea. MEPs continue to meet to exchange information about developments in and around Russia.
