Throughout the traineeship, trainees have the opportunity to observe the functioning of the Brussels-based European institutions, visit our sister organisations and meet important and inspiring individuals. Our coordinators assist them in gradually and steadily immersing themselves in Brussels’ international environment, helping them to feel at ease throughout their five-month experience at the Parliament.
This is just one of the many reasons we value the feedback of our trainees: we aspire to make the traineeship experience even better – thanks to them.
“It has been three months of our traineeship so far and during this time, we have already learnt so much! We now know how the European Parliament works day-to-day, what the decision-making process looks like, where the text of legislative acts comes from, who works on it and in what way, what is so special about communication at the European level and much, much more.
“As a former European Law student, I can say with full responsibility that books, classes, seminars and long years of studying the theory simply cannot teach you as much about the European Union as just a few weeks spent in one of its institutions. Everything looks so different in practice. Working here you can feel your impact on the future of European law and therefore on a (hopefully) better tomorrow. This is a feeling like no other, and I highly recommend taking your chance to experience it and to learn about the European Union and its political groups in practice, because it is SO MUCH MORE INTERESTING than theory ;)”
Klaudia Durma, Poland, ECON Committee
“My traineeship at the S&D Group was an exciting opportunity to gain valuable insights into EU affairs and decision-making, as well as into the inner workings of both the Group and the Parliament. As I was a trainee at the Committee on Constitutional Affairs (AFCO), I was involved in the work that followed the launch of the Conference on the Future of Europe and its digital platform and I even wrote a research piece on European citizen engagement. The traineeship encouraged me to use my multitasking and problem-solving skills and eventually opened the door to my further professional development – after the traineeship ended, I was able to secure employment at the Committee on the Environment, Public Health and Food Safety (ENVI).”
Natalia Adamikova, Slovakia, AFCO Committee
“The Francis Vals Fund traineeship has helped me improve my knowledge of politics; it has boosted my teamworking skills because of the many meetings and discussions with our Group members and secretariat staff. The working staff of the Group are extremely supportive and they try their best to make our traineeship more successful. I enjoy working in an environment where my supervisor is very friendly and is always willing to help me reach my goals. This traineeship gives you the chance to work and connect with very important people, and to make friends from the countries of the EU.”
Gavriil Touloupis, Cyprus, PETI Committee
“I wanted to express my gratitude to the S&D Group for giving me the chance to complete a traineeship in the logistics department. During my time there, I gained a lot of practical experience in managing supply chains, coordinating shipments and working with logistics software. I also appreciated the supportive and collaborative work environment, which helped me develop my communication and problem-solving skills. Thank you for the opportunity to learn and grow professionally!”
