Inequalities within and between countries are constantly rising. This is further exacerbated by multiple overlaying crises - such as the Russian aggression against Ukraine, the consequences of the Covid-19 pandemic, climate change and food insecurity - leading to extreme poverty, hunger and fragmented societies.
For the S&D Group, reducing inequalities and fighting poverty is a top priority and a prerequisite for global sustainable development. We are convinced that achieving Sustainable Development Goal 10: Reduce inequality within and among countries (SDG 10) would have a profound impact on the implementation of the UN 2030 Agenda. Therefore, we are pleased to organise this event at a time when Heads of State and Government have reaffirmed their commitment to the goals at the SDG Summit in New York.
